Beauty Through the Ages: 1930's

The makeup in the 1930's wasn't drastically different from the 20's. The complexion was still kept very pale, foundations in really light colors with a slight pink undertone were used. In the beginning of the 30's very little blush was used. Very light pinks and cream blushes were popular because they created a natural look. Later in the thirties deeper colors like raspberry, purple & yellow based reds became popular.
Just like in the twenties very thin eyebrows was still trendy, the eyebrows were either plucked really thin or entirely shaved off and then draw on with a pencil. The brows were also extended almost to the temple. Eyeshadows in shades of blue, green, purple and brown were widely used. The eyeshadow was a applied in a way to make the eyes appear rounder, a darker shade was also applied in the outer corner and to the crease to create depth. The general shape of the eyeshadow was very round and the edges were well blended. For an everyday simple makeup look petroleum jelly was applied to the eyelid to create some shine. Mascara was an essential part of the 1930's, false eyelashes were used a lot too. The eyeliner was quite thin, it started right at the tear duct and ended with a small wing in the outer corner.
The shape of the lips in the 30's wasn't as rounded and as cute as in the 20's. The lips were supposed to be full with an elongated bow that became rounder and flared at the corners. This lip trend was called the rosebud mouth. In the beginning of the 30's shades of light rose, raspberry tones, Chinese red and orange tones were popular but in the later part of the 30's mostly bright red lipsticks were used.

Pink isn't just a color, it's an attitude! - Miley Cyrus

Now, when the sun is finally shining I've been able to use my beautiful lipstick from the Maybelline Vivids collection. Isadora's lipliner in 35 Tropical Pink and the lipstick Shocking Coral by Maybelline has been my favorite lip combo as of late. A fun colorful lipstick brightens any tired wintery face! In the pictures I'm sporting the combo with a simply black liner but I've also worn it with a smokey eye and I works equally well.

Best Face Mask Ever!

I've previously written about how big of a fan I am of the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay. Now I've finally come up with the perfect recipe, which ultimately makes it the best face mask ever! I have to point out that I have oily acne prone skin so this mask is best suited for those with oily, blemish- or acne prone skin. If you want a more in-depth review of the clay itself you can find it here, along with recipes for other skin types.
The mask isn't very complicated to do and it only contains four different ingredients:
- Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay is 100% natural calcium bentonite clay. When you mix the clay  with any kind of liquid it develops a mild electrical charge that makes it able to draw toxins, heavy metals and other impurities from tissue. This makes the clay ideal for using on acne prone skin.
- Apple Cider Vinegar has both antibacterial and antiseptic properties. It also contains both malic and lactic acid which help to soften and exfoliate the skin and reduce red marks. The vinegar will also balance you skin's Ph-level and it has the ability to absorb excess sebum.
- Manuka honey is a medicinal grade honey. It's only produced in New Zealand by bees that that collect the nectar of the native manuka bush, hence it's called manuka honey. The honey is antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiviral and anti inflammatory. It's also very rich in nutrients. Due to it's unique properties it's used a lot in the medical field but it's also easy to see why it would work so well on acne. However it's essential to by authentic manuka honey. You should look for a UFM/IAA number on the packaging, this indicates both the authenticity and how powerful the honey is. It's recommended to use a honey that at least has a UMF number of ten or higher. Just remember that most of the honey's beneficial properties get destroyed when heated up (around 40-45'C), but that's not an issue concerning this mask.
- Tea Tree Oil is derived from the leaves of the tea tree which is native to Australia. Tea tree oil is antibacterial, antifungal and it can reduce allergic skin reactions, in other words it's great for acne.

Receptet / Recipe:

  • 1 msk / tbs Aztec Secrets Indian Healing Clay
  • 1 msk / tbs äppelcidervinäger / apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 msk / tbs Manuka honung / honey
  • 5 droppar / drops tea tree olja / oil

Mix all the ingredients together but try not to use any metal utensils or bowls in the process. Apply a thick layer of the mask all over your face and leave it until the mask dries completely. If you aren't used to using clay masks it might feel a bit uncomfortable when the mask dries and your face pretty much freezes, haha. The mask also makes you face pulsate, but don't worry it's only drawing out the impurities from your skin while increase in the blood flow in your face, which then increases the cell renewal. After rinsing off the mask you face might be a bit red but you will also notice that your pores have shrunk, you don't have as many blackheads, the skin is less oily and it's just in generally softer and fresher looking.
I really hope you like the recipe and try it out! If you are interested in the Indian Healing Clay you can fin it here. I've always purchased my clay powder from iHerb because it's inexpensive and it's quite affordable shipping to Finland. By using the code KAF403 you'll get $10 off your first purchase.
